Network Marketing, you’ve probably heard it said that it is essentially a people’s business. Some have also labelled it a people’s franchise because of the similarities between the business models of network marketing and franchising. Advocates of the industry name it as the ultimate people’s business and say there is nothing quite like it.

People who are in network marketing will immediately respond positively to this whereas those that are not familiar with the industry, or have had some bad experiences might be strongly opposed to this idea. One of the unique characteristics of this type of business is that every individual distributor is in business for themselves but never by themselves. They will always be part of a larger organization and the compensation models are designed in such a way that every person can count on some form of support from their upline.

Fortunes can be made in this type of business and many have done just that. Of course this is not the majority of network marketers, but every individual distributor does have the same chances. Success or failure in network marketing is not dictated by politics, race, age, background or gender, but always by results. In that respect it is probably also the fairest business model in the world.

For many people however the true value of their home based business is not directly in the financial return. The lessons a person can learn while building his or her own network marketing business are truly priceless. Many people are totally transformed through the personal growth they experience as a direct result of their challenges in their MLM businesses. It forced them to get out of their comfort zones, grow, and in many cases become a better person.

Using online social networks for marketing is different from traditional marketing tactics. It’s not just a matter of getting your message out to as many people as possible. This is akin to spamming. The main distinction between traditional online marketing and marketing on online social networks is that effective online network marketing involves relationships. It is not just a matter of pushing your message; it’s a matter of having a conversation or relationship with your audience.

Having said that, you may wonder who is your audience. Is it anybody and everybody who will listen? Not exactly. Although you should strive to increase the size of your network, you must keep in mind that you must target influencers within your market. Those people who blog or write, content producers, frequently are more likely to generate buzz about your organization than those who are content consumers. The content producers are the leaders of online networks. You want the leaders on your side.

In short, don’t turn down somebody who friends you on an online network like Facebook or MySpace, the two largest network communities. Go ahead and add people who want to be your friends, if they take up too much time and don’t provide any value for you, you can unfriend them later. Keep in mind that amongst those friends you add, there may be an influencer or two who will recommend your product or service to others. If you have a system that targets influencers, then you will have used an online network to its fullest potential.

Having said all that, it is vital that your interactions with your online friends are genuine. As soon as you come across as fake or not genuine, whatever goodwill you may have generated will flip into an equal amount of ill-will. Keep it personal and keep it real.

But here’s the catch - it’s first come, first serve. If you have a common name, you might have missed out already.

Go right now to http://www.facebook.com

Log in and you will see a form that gives you several suggested usernames, and the ability to choose your own. Either choose one of the names suggested or type in your own.

If someone else already has your name, get creative - add a period, or a dash or shorten it, lengthen it or slap a number in there (just one) somewhere.

I already got my name at midnight, before going out. Sorry, that’s why I’m just letting you know now.

Another way to quickly move your sites to the first page of google for your keywords, is to use RSS feeds.

Make sure you have an RSS feed for your blog page, website page, hub or squidoo, ezine article page, or wherever you have placed your content.

And, then submit your RSS feed to RSS feed aggregators - lots of them.  The more aggregators you submit to, the better. However, not all web pages have an RSS feed, so you need to create one.   Read more about creating RSS feeds and how to automatically submit to RSS aggregators.

For those who wish to broaden their MLM network but don’t have the time, money, and energy to do so, a quick and dirty solution is to simply step up your advertising efforts. Take note that advertising does not necessarily mean putting up billboards or placing ads on the TV or radio. It also means doing a number of little things to help your clients recognize and remember you.

If you have advertised in any type of medium before, then you must aware that advertising costs can quickly pile up. If the advertising is done as part of a home business marketing campaign, you simply cannot afford to spend too much. If you did, the cost of building your MLM network will simply outweigh the potential benefits.

You may not have the resources to advertise to a national audience, but you certainly have the means to make people aware of what you are doing. There are many relatively inexpensive ways you can advertise. This article lists some of the alternatives that you can take to improve your visibility.
