At the heart of any good residual income business is a person who knows how to generate leads. Leads enable a person to build their business. They are the one true way of getting to the top of any residual income business. A person who does not focus on lead generation will soon find their residual income dries up. Many people end up quitting because they do not understand how to generate leads.

A lead is the name and information for a person who is a possible customer or team member. There are many different types of leads. Basically, the best leads are qualified leads. Qualified leads are the names of people who have expressed an interest in the business or products. They have either requested information or otherwise made it known that they are interested in either buying something or becoming part of the business. These leads are the best because they have the most promise. These people are the most likely to buy or sign up. Other leads may be people who have not expressed interest and would be rather difficult to sell anything to or get to sign up. One of the other important aspects about leads is they must be current leads. Nothing is worse than buying leads only to find out they are not current. If they are not current the contact information could be wrong and then that is money and time wasted.

Leads can be generated in a few different ways. Offline leads can come from telemarketing, talking to people and advertising. Online leads can come from advertising and email capturing. These are not the only way to get leads, but some of the more popular. There is also buying leads. Buying leads can be risky, though. As mentioned, they could not be current and that is hard to guarantee when buying them. The other methods are much better because they are current, qualified leads. They just provide the best opportunity. They all bring in leads that are qualified. People are responding to the business, they know what it is and they are ready to either buy or sign up. These leads are the key to making a good income.

Leads are the fuel to earning a top residual income. Good leads are going to produce the sales and sign ups needed to make a residual income opportunity explode and be successful. They can make or break a business. So every business owner needs to understand what makes a lead good and where to get it. A business owner needs to take the time to generate their own leads, so they can ensure they are good. Then they can take their leads and turn them into top residual income.

Many people think a Multi Level Marketing (MLM) business is set up to run on its own and will effortlessly generate a residual income. The fact of the matter is that it takes some work to make that MLM start building a residual income.

Nobody gets rich overnight from an MLM, although some advertising out there would have you believing otherwise! It takes more than just signing up to get started and get going. Combine that with the fact that most MLM businesses run solely online, and many people give up before they even get started because they do not understand how to make it work.

There are a few key things a person needs to know to make an online MLM business work for them.

Making a good choice is the first step to MLM success. A person has to choose something they are interested in, and something they think they can get others interested in. It makes it much easier to start with a product and company that a person can stand behind then having to start by convincing themselves that it is worthwhile. It is a waste of time trying to build up belief in something when there are plenty of opportunities from which to choose. A person should look around until they find the one that suits them best.

Getting marketing help is part of what an MLM business is about, and an integral key to success. An MLM business is supposed to be a team effort. A person needs to understand that they should go to those higher up in the company and get help to build a good marketing campaign. Those who are already successful with the company have some amazing things to share. They may pass on tricks and tips for creating a profitable marketing campaign. There is no reason to go at it alone when help is so openly available.

Thinking big is a must in an MLM business. A person needs to take advantage of the internet and seek out customers and team members from all over. The larger an area covered, the more possibilities they will open up for their business. By taking advantage of the fact that the internet allows a person to market all over the world, they can build a team and customer base of people all over the world, thus expanding their business globally.

These three things are keys to making an MLM business a success. By following through on them, a person will find they can make an online MLM residual income business work. There is just so much opportunity that it would be a waste to not use it all. These three keys make use of everything the internet has to offer a prospective business person.

There are 3 important stages to Internet Network marketing. And, these 3 things must be done in order if you’re going to be successful.

1. Research your Market

2. Get Visitors to your websites Based on your Research in 1.

3. Convert these Visitors to Customers of Team Members in your Downline.

HOW IT WAS TRADITIONALLY DONE
Usually, you would join the Network Marketing Company you wanted to join, and get started with your marketing, leading with the product or the opportunity, or both. In the traditional market offline, it is difficult to target your market, because most marketers have no idea which people are actually looking for their particular product or opportunity.

Now, with the internet and search engines, you can market to the people who are looking for your specific product or opportunity.

On the internet, it’s much easier to find out what people are searching for, and there are tools that do most of the work for you. We will show you how to use a really powerful tool that does all the research for you.

Lets look at each of these steps in a little more detail:

1. RESEARCH YOUR MARKET

In research, you will discover what people type into search engines, when they want to find products or an opportunity you are marketing.

Market research is the most important step, and if it’s not done properly, you will find it very difficult to be successful.

There are two different kinds of research:

1) If you already belong to a company, you will research within your market.

2) If you don’t have a company yet, or you’re looking for a new company: you will look at the kinds of markets you’re interested in.

1) If you already belong to a company:

For example, if you are in a company that sells nutritional dog food, you will research the words people use to look for “nutritional dog food”.

If you’re in a company that sells healthy energy drinks, you will research the words people use to look for “healthy energy drinks”.

If you are looking for business builders in your company, you will look for words people use to look for a particular business.

They might be looking for a “dog food business” or for “mlm healthy energy drinks”.

You are going to save a lot of time and m’oney by doing market research, so that you can eliminate stuff that will never work.

2) If you are looking for a Company to Work with

If you are looking for a particular company to work with, think about what kind of markets you like.

Here are a few of the markets that may interest you:

Health and Wellness, Cleaning Products, Animals, Travel, Chef products, Toys, Cosmetics, Financial Services, Legal Services

One of the reasons that so many people are not successful with network marketing is because they give up too early. Now don’t get me wrong it can appear to be a tough business at the beginning. Recruiting, training, selling, promoting, it can seem like a huge learning curve of "things to do" and when you are not used to running a business in that way it can be easier to give up than go on.

Below are 11 steps you can take to ensure you enjoy success with network marketing, stay on the road to success and avoid potential pitfalls.

1. Be prepared to handle rejection.

Who said that any kind of selling was easy? But it all comes down to attitude. If you can understand that a rejection of the opportunity that you are so excited about is not a rejection of you as a person, then you are on your way. "No" must be interpreted as "next". This is easier said than done but it’s the price of success.

2. Be realistic in your expectations.

All new businesses take time to develop and grow. If you go into a network marketing opportunity and raise your bar to a level you can’t reach you will soon become disappointed. By the same token I never want to dampen a persons enthusiasm if they truly believe that they can achieve high numbers in a short time. However, many times unrealistic expectations are set and disappointment often follows.

Would you work out in the gym for an hour and then expect to have rippling muscles? Then why expect a business venture to be off the ground and earning you money within a few weeks? Give it time, this is a new born baby, it takes time to nurture and grow. The potential results are worth the initial effort.

If your attraction to a network marketing company was the sales page that mentioned the salaries of their top recruiters find those people and ask them how long it took them to build their business and how much money and time they had to put into it. This information will give you a clearer picture.

3. Be in it for the long haul

Once you find a reputable company be prepared to stay for the long haul. As mentioned above building your business takes time. The most successful people in life have gone through very trying times but they stuck with it and left a legacy behind. It is often said that tough times don’t last but tough people do. The same is true for those seeking to build a solid residual income. You should commit yourself to at least 3 years before making a decision either way. Yes! That’s right. AT LEAST 3 years. Jumping from one opportunity to the next only shows a lack of decision and stability in your planning.

4. Listen to those who have been successful

Learn from the pros and stick with what works. When you first join a network marketing company it is really easy to "pick holes" in the way things are done. Perhaps you see a better way to achieve something. Well before you rush off and try it contact the "heavy hitters" - the successful people within the company and ask them if it has been tried already. If it ain’t broke then don’t try and fix it.

Be a learner for your first year. Just listen, learn and apply. After you are more established you can always pick up on your idea and if it is a good one then you will have the backing of experience to help you put it in place. Being in a new network marketing company is learning enough for anyone, don’t complicate things by trying to do things your way.

5. Empower your downline members ASAP!

Leveraging other people’s time and skills is the powerful system that lies behind Network Marketing.

Teaching is an important part of the game of building a strong team but some marketers make the mistake of doing too much for their downline members. This often backfires, however, because the downline members become comfortable and depend too heavily on their upline and never grow strong enough to build their own teams.

So it is important that you train your downline members and empower them to take the plunge towards getting going as quickly as possible. Avoid doing too much for them, or making them dependent on contacting you for every little thing.

6. Arrange group rather than one to one discussions

Whenever possible arrange to talk to a group of people at once rather than focus on talking to everyone individually, which will be very time consuming. The best network marketing companies will already have group presentations that you can invite people to attend but you may also want to consider running your own. Other things to try include hosting an online chat room, setting up a toll free number with a recorded message that invites callers to leave their details so that you can return the call.

7. Look for people in need of extra income

Many small businesses are in need to extra revenue to help with cash flow problems. If they offer services they may also be interested in establishing a business that provides passive income - especially if it fits into what they already offer.

The biggest advantage is the fact that you are targeting people who are already motivated and understand what it takes to run a successful business. These individuals will also be networking in their businesses and therefore may be in a position of influence. Professionals that come in contact with a large number of people also make good distributors. The more ‘business minded’ your prospects are the more likely you will recruit them.

8. Make a written plan with all your goals

As a life coach I understand the importance of writing goals down as a way of working towards them. We are more likely to commit to something that is written down, plus you can hang it up within your sight to remind you of what you are working towards when you are in need of motivation. I recommend your top six goals are written out daily and/or read out.

Every business owner should have a goal to which they are aspiring to. If you aim for nothing you are likely to strike it. If your plan is to get to a residual income of $30,000 per month then you should set smaller goals on your way there.

9. Improve your listening and rapport building skills

It is important to improve your listening skills if you want to become a successful network marketer. It is even more important to improve your ability to instantly communicate and bond with people.

At its core, Network Marketing is really people management. If you don’t like dealing with people then this is not for you. You are always going to be in direct or indirect contact with people and so you should brush up on your people skills.

One of those skills that you’ll need to primarily focus on is your listening skills. One of the most common downfalls of MLMers is that they talk too much and don’t listen enough. This applies to the majority of salespeople. You have to always take time to listen to the customer because if you do - they will tell you what they are looking for!

10. Make sure you are continually learning

Stay at your peak at all times by knowing what is going on in your industry. Subscribe to at least one professional MLM journal and a magazine. Attend your company’s meetings and get yourself in with those higher up so that you can be one of the first to learn about new opportunities/changes and pass this on to your team.

11. Produce your own material

If you really want to be known as an expert in your field then you must seriously considering producing your own material. The more opportunity you provide people to see you as someone who knows a lot about what is happening within your company the more chances you have of being able to recruit people to join your team.

Material life special reports, ebooks, podcast, video and audio can all be created to enhance your credibility and unlike the brochure that everyone in your company uses, this is exclusive only to you (and perhaps the members of your team).

I have just provided you with 11 ways to enjoy success with network marketing that will ensure your business stays on the road to success. If you haven’t done this already I encourage you to stop reading and start writing down what your goals are for your business over the next 12 months. Also think about what you have to do to make that happen.

Stay focused, know your direction, get help from your sponsor and make sure you continually support those you introduce. Do these things and you will soon find yourself running a very profitable network marketing team.

Network Marketing is a business model that can lead to a fulfilling career and a retirement style income. Before embarking on a this path, do consider the following:

1) Your Own Mindset
People fail in MLM when they do not develop a positive hardworking mindset. This not only applies to MLM, but anything worth achieving in life. We only achieve when we are PASSIONATE about what we do. Passion makes our actions laser focused to hit our targets.

2) Attitude
A good mindset leads to a positive attitude. When something does not go our way, we should learn from the results and not blame someone or the company from it. We may not have control over the Network Marketing company, or whether or not our MLM sponsor supports us, but we can chart our own path and control our own destiny.
One can take various action by staying with the company, put one’s best attitude forward and succeed with the company’s system, signup again under a better sponsor, or opt out and do something different. Our mindset, actions, destiny are ours to decide.

3) The Sponsor
It is important to start off with a good sponsor at the beginning. This is because the initial months usually decide whether or not the new enrollee will stay in the business. Some people may feel unhappy that their sponsor did not contribute to them, left them in the lurch or are simply piggy backing of their downline’s efforts without contributing to their success and learning process. Search for a strong team and sponsor focused on the MLM business you are keen in, before joining the team. A strong sponsor will impart all the right skills for you to achieve a retirement style income.

4) Network Marketing Company’s Duplication System.
The Network Marketing business model builds on the principle of duplication. It is important to note that these systems do not necessarily set you up for success. People join these companies thinking that if they follow these steps, they will be set up for massive profits, which is not entirely true since not everyone can naturally follow the same practices.

Such systems involve the following:
-Make a friends list and contact them
-3 foot rule. Use DVDs and CDs, go up to anyone within 3 feet and give them the Network Marketing DVD and CD
-Buy Leads and cold call
-Invite prospects to seminars and allow the seminars to sell your prospects on the Network Marketing business model
-Train yourself to be numb to rejection and hear ten “no’s” before you hear a “yes”

Do people really make BIG money following these Network Marketing practices?
Yes. And I also know many who don’t and struggle to talk to prospects, bring family and friends to seminars and functions.

An alternative way to the traditional Network Marketing Business model involves harnessing the power of the INTERNET and no cold calling. The 21st century is upon us. This is the information age. Hype is out and information and facts are in. The criteria for selecting a company are: the product industry, timing, compensation plan, the company management, and what is special about the product.

Now there is a whole book written on this, so  just expand on the timing part: Darren Falters conclusion is Experts agree that selecting a company in the start-up phase is extremely risky. Although there are some terrific rewards associated with being one of the founding distributors in a network marketing company, the risks seem to outweigh the rewards. The same exciting growth can be experienced by selecting a company in the momentum phase (this is has got past start up and is in strong growth), but at this point the risk is significantly reduced. As network marketing continues to evolve, distributors ‘will realise that getting in early will become less and less important. An entrepreneur/s primary concern will be selecting a company that has long term stability, not short term flash in the pan profits.

Thousands of new Network Marketing companies launch every year thanks to the Internet. You can literally start your own company from your bedroom if you want. If you like to join new things, you will find plenty. Just remember that you are taking a risk with start-ups. 95% of new businesses fail. You are risking your money, your time and your reputation. As well as missing out on building a solid business with a well established company.

Having said this, if there is a new business that has a product that will benefit you and the cost is pretty low, then there is not a lot of risk in getting involved. Sort of a try it and see approach.

However, if this is going to be your focus, your business and you way of changing your life, check it our properly.

So my advice is this. Evaluate the company, the management, the product, and how long the business has been operating. Then decide if that business is right for you. Myth 1# Just call enough people and you will find success in this industry

If you’ve been in the business opportunity world for any length of time I’m sure you’ve heard this false claim. It states it?’s a numbers game and if you just contact enough people you will be successful. In essence, this statement is true, but there is a HUGE misnomer in it. Let me explain, true if you contact enough people you will find success, but after buying leads and calling well over 500 people and not having one person join my business it’s not as easy as it sounds. First you have to have the money to buy all those leads. Most people and me included when I was going through the school of hard knocks don’t have this type of money to put out before finding any initial success. You see it’s NOT just about calling people it’s about being GOOD at calling people. I wasn’t good and I didn’t have the funds to continue my hard knock education to find a glimmer of hope. Calling leads is NOT as duplicable as THEY say. What is duplicable is having a direct marketing system to do the selling for you. That’s what works online.

Myth 2# You can create financial success with little or no money.

This is one of my personal favorites. We have all been in the scenario where we have been to a ra ra meeting and those at the front telling there stories are asked how did you get so many sales or how did you recruit so many people the answer will almost certainly be: ‘I just talked to everyone consistently, I was unemployed when I started this business’ Whatever. If it was that simple we all would have made it long time ago right.

Myth 3# You cannot build a network marketing business using the internet

It’s usually the same people who say this are the same people who claim they have built a business with little or no money. Think about it, the internet is an excellent way of doing business. Millions upon millions are surfing the net on a daily basis you can put yourself in front of these people passively.

When I began using the internet as my marketing medium for my business I requested the advice of others that have been successful in promoting a residual income producing business. I asked them if it was possible to create a huge income in the business using the internet. My question was met with overwhelming amounts of friction. I was told that it simply couldn’t be done. I was told that it was not personal enough of a medium for this business medium to be used effectively in the way that I was referring. I couldn’t understand why.

The internet is a personal medium we are have email addresses. Which is great for building personal relationships and my results have proved it.

Myth #4: Buying and Calling Leads Is The Only Way To REALLY Grow A Network Marketing Organization

The first thing that happens generally when you join a network marketing business is you ask you sponsor how to get your business growing and they inevitable answer by saying head over to X lead company get yourself some leads on monthly autoship and call them. You follow their advice and you do it. You Buy 500 leads a month for $200 a month and you start calling. You’re met with people that have no idea why you are contacting them and many of them aren’t happy about it either. You put up with it because that’s what you are taught to do from your sponsor and because that’s the way they say it works. Five months and $1000 down the road you’ve called your fair share of people and you wonder why it’s not working. Then you ask how is duplicable on a high level? The answer is it’s NOT! The truth is buying leads can and does work for some, but it’s not the only or even the best way to grow your business. You only want to speak with people that are interested in YOUR business and when you buy generic leads that’s not what you get. Buying leads is NOT the only way to grow your MLM and it’s by far NOT the
easiest way.

Myth #5: Just Set IT And Forget It

When you’re first introduced to leveraged residual income producing businesses the first thought that enters your mind is if I just get a couple people and they just get a couple people maybe this thing will work and maybe you’ll be able to just sit back and watch it all happen as you income continues to grow. That’s NOT how it works. Your recruiting process is a constant process as distributors will come and go.

Myth #6 To succeed in Network Marketing all you have to do is recruit

This is what I call an underground myth. Simply because all network marketers have thought this unconsciously at some point in their network marketing career but would not admit it. Now if you want that true residual income it is far easier to concentrate on retailing the products or service and then after a while encourage the product users to become distributors. Think about it. The most successful networkers are those that have an emotional attachment with the products. So if you have a customer that has really benefited from the products then they will have no trouble promoting the products because they have a strong story rather than those ‘opportunity seekers’ who will drop out once they realise they don’t really care about the products.
