If you are reading this article, you must be wondering how internet is related in your network marketing business. Before I started to do online prospecting last year, I thought that building my MLM business on the internet is not possible. I have heard rumors that there are a lot of scams that tricked people into believing that it is possible to do online prospecting.

I have been doing traditional offline prospecting for almost 5 years in this industry. I have faced countless of rejections and done a lot of cold calls. Still there is no much success. Till last year in 2007, I decided to look for help. I found an Expert who is an Internet network marketer. We have a coaching session and he taught priceless lessons that help me to recruit hundreds of downlines in less than 3 months.

So how does it work? Internet marketing has been around for a long time about a decade. Thousands of people have made millions of dollars online. To succeed in doing network marketing prospecting online, you need to understand the basic principle of how it worked in the internet marketing industry.

The 3 Basic principles to succeed online

This is the 3 basic principles that you must follow to succeed online:

1)    Create your own marketing system. Most people do not understand that to make money online, you need to create your marketing system. You cannot have the mindset of a “get rich quick” mentality. Adopting the right mindset will determine your failure or success.

2)    Set up your leads generation system. Leads are your lifeblood of your internet and network marketing business. Without leads, there is no one to pitch your business opportunity or sell your products. Example of a leads generation system is article marketing.

3)    Set up your email marketing system. You need to purchase an auto responder to write emails and send it out to your prospects in automation. It acts as your sales assistant to help you build relationships with your prospects and sell your products.

Now you have understood the 3 basic principles how to succeed online, next, I am going to share with you what my mentor taught me about how internet and network marketing is related and how to use internet into your secret weapon to build a huge motivated team.

5 Tips on Building your internet and network marketing business

Actually, there is no secret to success. You just have to adopt the right mindset and apply the right methods of building your internet and network marketing business. There is no two ways about it. You have to focus, remain focus at all times.

1)    The first thing you need to do is to create your squeeze page, often called the lead capture page. It is a mini website that you use to capture your prospects name and email address. The purpose is to follow up with them using the auto responder.

2)    Next, purchase an auto responder. I personally use “GetResponse.com” for most of my internet and network marketing campaigns. Create your opt in form and insert it in your squeeze page. 3)    Direct traffic to your lead capture page. I can’t deny that traffic generation is the most difficult step in building your internet and network marketing business. Most people give up at this step as it could take weeks and months to drive traffic to your website. There is a few strategies you can apply to drive traffic.

My favorite traffic generation methods are article marketing and video marketing. Sometimes traffic can comes instantly using video marketing. It simply works like magic.

4)    Write responsive emails. Now you have a list. The next stumbling block you need to overcome is to create emails that are filled with content and soft selling. Network marketing prospecting starts in email marketing. To succeed in network marketing prospecting online, you need to build strong relationships with your prospects.

Once you have gained trust and credibility from your prospects, you can proceed to pitch your business opportunity to or sell network marketing home study courses.

5)    Finally, create your network marketing blog. This is the next step in network marketing prospecting. Blogging is a great way to brand yourself as an expert. You gained credibility instantly once you have great contents posted to your blog daily.

When it comes to internet network marketing, a lot of people get all wrapped up in the making money, business end of the concept, and forget all about the most important part:  Networking. This
indispensable tool makes this part of your business easy to manage.

So, you did a great job calling your leads and getting people signed up in your opportunity.  Or, maybe you placed ads in key places and got a terrific response and lots of sign ups.  You’ve got the business opportunity.  You’ve got the downline.

Now what do you do?

If you only have one or two people in your downline, this isn’t a huge issue.  It’s easy enough to stay in contact with just a few people by phone and email.

But, what happens as your network grows, or as you develop leads that haven’t signed up yet? When you have 10, 20, 50 or 100 people on your list, do you want to email each of them individually?

If you don’t have an autoresponder, you need one.  It will save you time and energy, and will help you convert leads to downline on autopilot.

What Do You Look For in an Autoresponder?

Multiple List Capability:

Can you have multiple lists?  This is important for several reasons.  If you have a variety of niche sites, you need a separate mailing list for each one.  You may want separate mailing lists for customers, leads and downline.

Deliverability:

What is the rate of deliverability?  Not all autoresponders are created equal. You need one that is dependable and will get your messages through quickly and consistently.

Pre-loaded Messages:

How many messages can you pre-program into your auto-responder?  Ideally, you should be able to
pre-enter a year’s worth of emails or more that will be automatically delivered based on the date someone signed up for your mail list.

Broadcast Messages:

Make sure you can send out a broadcast message to your list.  In fact, if you can choose to send it to any or all of your lists, that’s even better. That way if something comes along that you want to notify everyone of, you can type it in one time and send it to all of your different groups at the same time.

Scheduled Delivery:

Look for an autoresponder that will allow you to schedule delivery of your emails.  That way, if you are entering fresh content in addition to your uploaded emails (which I highly recommend!), you can write a few at a time and then schedule when they should be delivered to your active list.

This feature is especially useful if you are planning to be away from your computer and don’t want to drop out of contact with your list.

Personalization:

Make sure your autoresponder allows you to personalize your emails.  It is much nicer to get an email that refers to you by name, than one that starts out “Dear Friend”.

So, what can you use an autoresponder for?

• Notify customers of new products or sales
• Explain benefits of opportunity to leads
• Train current downline
• Notify downline of new products, new policies, contests, etc.

Basically, your autoresponder is what helps you develop relationships with all the people you work
with — in whatever capacity.

How often should you send messages?

Well, that depends on who your target audience is.  If they are leads, I personally think you should send them messages every day.  Some people may think that’s too often.  You may even have some people unsubscribe.

That’s OK. The ones who identify with you will actually look forward to your daily messages. The ones who don’t, you don’t need on your list anyway.  It’s all part of the sorting process.

Becoming an internet network marketing internet guru is not that difficult. Most self-proclaimed experts do not have a clue what they are doing, but by calling themselves an expert and knowing the language leads other to believe they know what they are talking about. Becoming involved in internet network marketing is more than just posting ads on hundreds or thousands of affiliate websites. The message you post must be geared to a diverse audience as it is impossible to know exactly who will be viewing your message. A smart affiliate will not post ads on their site that have no relationship to their own message, still others will post just about any type ad, other than those relating to their business for fear of the extra competition.

Another thought has it that the common web surfer, that is those with no knowledge of or interest in internet marketing may be seeing a different message when they ads on a web site. These folks, commonly referred to as potential customers, only see advertising and do not know or care whether it is paid ads or not. Being an affiliate with well-known businesses may lead them to the conclusion that your site must be pretty good to keep company with such big businesses.

Surrounding yourself with good people has long been an accepted method of helping your business get better, By bringing in the smartest and brightest stars, new and innovative ideas have helped many businesses prosper. The same theory could be applied to network marketing as having your name associated with the biggest and brightest companies can make your site shine even brighter. Perhaps a better name would be success by association.

For example, you run a computer hardware sales company on the internet and become an affiliate of Cisco, many may interpret that as an endorsement of your business by one of the biggest computer network hardware manufacturers, which gives your name a boost.

We all know the internet has revolutionized the way Network Marketers do business.  Not only can you avoid the shame and embarrassment of pestering family and friends when you market online, you can save yourself time, as well.  But if you’re marketing your Network Marketing business online–or thinking about it–be sure to avoid these traps that will keep you from achieving the level of success you desire.

Trap 1:  Wasting Time on the Internet

Surfing the internet rather than using it for a purpose can be a temptation every time you sit down at your computer . It’s important to be disciplined about what you are going to do when you get on the internet.  If you spend time looking at every story and article, clicking on all the ads, and never actually marketing your Network Marketing business, you’re not going to get very far.

Solution: Set limits for yourself.  Give yourself a set amount of time–10 or 15 minutes, perhaps–to do whatever you want.  Check the weather, read the latest gossip about Brangelina, and get to work when your time limit is up.

Trap 2:  Checking Your E-mail Excessively

You want to be accessible to your downline and your prospects, so you check your e-mail regularly.  And that’s a good thing!  But spending too much time checking and responding to e-mail can interrupt tasks you are trying to complete and keep you from getting to tasks you should complete.

Solution: Again, set limits for yourself.  Turn off the “ding” that notifies you when you receive a new e-mail.  Set some time aside in your schedule a couple of times a day to read and respond to e-mail.

Your downline will be more respectful of your time if you’re accessible but not always available.  And responding to prospects within seconds or minutes just comes across as desperate, if you ask me.

Trap 3: Trying to Learn Everything at Once

There is so much to learn when it comes to Internet Network Marketing.  Many Network Marketers try to do it all at once–blogging, pay-per-click, forum marketing…the list goes on.  The result is they never become an expert in anything and get dismal results at everything.

Solution: While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using more than one method of marketing, you should focus your attention on becoming an expert in one area.  Then once you feel you’ve mastered it, you can move on to the next method and master that as well.

Network Marketers who master a method of marketing before trying something different achieve better results…and they’re a lot less frustrated and burned out as a result!

Network marketing and Internet marketing – from what you have heard of these two business models, you would probably have only seen the negative side of it.

Popular opinions are that all network marketing schemes are scams, or that Internet marketing will not work, because there are millions of websites. These are the popular misconceptions.

But first, let me tell you why these two misconceptions are good.

It does mean that less people will be motivated to be involved in these two businesses, which is important, because after all, we Internet marketers do not want saturation in the market! If everybody is selling, nobody will be buying.

Now, why are many people basically uneducated about these two subjects? It all comes down to a simple reason. Where do people get their news from? Correct, the newspapers, television news, and sometimes the Internet. These mediums have never publicised network marketing or affiliate/Internet marketing, all they talk about is traditional business models. They are more interested in what is happening in the Integrated Resorts applications, the war in Iraq, how to fight Aids, the overview of the stock market, and all that, the first of which has influenced people to believe that job in the service industry has a promising future, and the second of which is important, but really, not much people talk about it.

What else does the media report? All the bad news about pyramid schemes, fraud, laundering. You see these everyday on the front page. Do you ever see a success story of a network marketer in the news?

So the public remain to continue being uneducated. Which is good, in a way!

For years I struggled in business and in life. I used to quit before I ever got started. I would make goals and new years resolutions only to find myself a few weeks later in the same place I was before I got started. I used to wonder what special gift did successful leaders like Daegan Smith, Jonathan Budd, Mike Dillard, and Katie Freiling all have in common?

I began by studying their training. I purchased their courses and read their books. I also watched their videos and attended their webinars. What I learned friends is that they all harnessed the POWER of PERSEVERANCE.

They knew how NOT to quit, they just kept moving forward. They started just like I did with no knowledge of online MLM marketing and within a few short months were set free financially.

It takes incredible perseverance to survive in entrepreneurship, especially in the network marketing industry. For example, If I’m actively pursuing knowledge and strategies that will better my downlines, my team will always follow me. If I sit on my butt and let my team become more valuable than me then they will just look to the next leader. This is why training is so important in the online mlm industry. It’s all about creating massive value in the lives of others. Having the right knowledge and performing the right activities will do this for you.

Daegan Smith, Jonathan Budd, Mike Dillard, and Katie Freiling are all massively successful because they persevered until they became the leader who is worthy of being followed and mentored. They all studied and worked very hard building their MLM business. They sacrificed tons of hours to grow their businesses when their friends were at the beach or watching T.V.

Eventually, they surrounded themselves with a mastermind of partners who helped them even further. They learned how to make money as infopreneurs by creating their own courses and systems. Their couses and marketing systems have had a major impact on me as well as thousands of other entrepreneurs. Next, they learned the power of affiliate marketing and how to have thousands of affiliates promoting their products for them. Last but not least they learned the power of training and coaching and how to make massive money promoting their TIME coaching one on one.

For many distributors struggling to turn a profit in their MLM business, learning internet marketing strategies, tools and tactics can be the difference between realizing all of their goals & dreams that this industry promises and becoming just another casualty that tried MLM before but failed to become successful.

Unfortunately there are several trainers out there on the internet that advocate abandoning the time proven strategies taught by MLM companies in favor of internet marketing strategies.

Typically, the trainer shares a story about how they struggled in MLM before learning these internet marketing techniques and then after applying these techniques, their income exploded. They also talk about how traditional MLM strategies didn’t work for them and this is why the student needs to use internet marketing.

Trainers that advocate this approach fail to understand the ultimate goal in MLM.

MLM is not about you being the best recruiter or the best person at signing up customers. MLM is about you doing a few basic simple concepts and you teaching your team how to do a few basic simple concepts until it duplicates down through your organization and the business begins to grow without your involvement.

The challenge is sticking around long enough until those people that are willing to do these few basic things are discovered and the organization is able to take off without your involvement.

The other challenge is that there is no way of knowing whether someone you recruit is going to be one of those people that are willing to do those few basic things. There is especially no way of knowing whether the person you recruit will eventually lead you to the person that is willing to do those few basic things.

As a result, when these trainers advocate only using internet marketing strategies, they in effect handicap a MLM distributor’s ability to find those key individuals faster by limiting that distributor to one source of prospecting, that being internet marketing. The fact of the matter is that some of the best distributors in your organization may very well be people that you already know, people that they know or people that you meet when going through your daily routine.

The other downside to advocating only internet marketing strategies is that you handicap the growth of your organization by making a very dangerous assumption. Just because a prospect comes from an online source does not mean that when the prospect becomes a distributor he or she will thrive using an internet marketing approach.

The prospect that you recruited may have a very strong warm market that he or she has great influence over and is highly respected in that warm market.

However, that prospect may only be barely competent in the internet, having the ability to navigate web sites and check email, but not much else. As a result, now instead of having a distributor that could be a six figure income organization for you, by requiring only internet marketing, that distributor now becomes another distributor that quits in 90 days.

Because of this, I NEVER advocate only using internet marketing strategies to build a MLM business.

The key to success is to be familiar with ALL strategies, YOU use the strategy that works best for YOU and you work with your team to help them discover the strategy that works best for them!

Some distributors in your organization will do very well with internet marketing strategies. Other distributors will be able to master the warm market and referral process. Other distributors will do well by calling business opportunity leads. Still other distributors will be a master of the conversation and can spark conversations with people throughout the course of their daily activity to build their business successfully.

Internet marketing does NOT replace traditional MLM strategies. It simply complements traditional MLM strategies. Know that and apply that, and you will be well on the road to building a long term successful business!

Most people fail miserably in their network marketing business. Even though “it’s easy” and “anybody can do it” according to the Guru at the front of the room. Here are the top four reasons people fail in their network marketing business:

1. Lack of money

A lot of people just don’t have the money to market their business. The days of “Make a list and talk to your friends and family” are gone. Do you really think the big dogs on stage are still doing that? Absolutely not. They are investing every month in some form of marketing, and so should you. Luckily, you don’t need much money. With the emergence of the internet over a billion people become available to you through social sites, forums, groups and chat rooms.

If you learn the art of social marketing, along with sort of advertising that captures leads through pay-per-click, solo ads, article marketing, blogging etc, you should be able to capture a decent amount of leads with as little as $50 to $100 a month! You should also strongly consider a Funded Proposal, a method of marketing that creates income for you up-front, while producing all the leads you need.

2. Lack of Activity

I have to admit, I’m lazy by nature, and I know I’m not alone! Give me a choice between something I WANT to do and something I HAVE to do and well… you get the idea. To combat that I have disciplined myself through making network marketing into a game. I play the game 30 minutes a day, and get points for business building activity. This has worked well for me.

Other people find business partners who they are accountable to every day, and communicate by e-mail or phone at the end of every day, comparing results and sharing ideas. Another method that works well is a team call where people can dial into a conference line and discuss the days work with several others. Just figure out a system that works for you, and commit to a small amount of reasonable activity every day, then teach your team to do the same, and if you are consistent and persistent, your team will be as well, and you will create duplication.

I don’t know who said this, but it’s absolutely true: “If you want your team to go into momentum, YOU have to go into momentum.”

3. Lack of People to Talk To

The big question is: Who are you going to talk to today? There are three types of leads:

1. Warm Market. These are the people that already know you and (hopefully!) trust you.

2. Purchased leads.

3. Self Generated leads.

Now here’s a tip I learned from one of our guest trainers, Dale Calvert: It’s all about WARM MARKET. But wait! You say. Then why are you telling me about Purchased and Self Generated leads? Simple. Your job is to turn all your leads into warm market leads. Most people make the mistake of thinking of them as “leads” instead of as PEOPLE! If you stop recruiting and start building your warm market, you will take pressure off of yourself, off of them, and your whole network marketing business will grow more naturally and be more rewarding.

4. Lack of Skills and Knowledge

My friend Pat Berry of the MLM Radio Show talks about becoming a “Skillionaire.” I love the metaphor. I know a lot of network marketing millionaires, and every single one of them has a high skill set. They know the industry inside out, they have developed great people skills, they are master communicators, and great marketers. And all of those things can be learned. Don’t make the mistake of thinking they were born that way. All of these skills can be developed.

Here’s a simple way to increase your skills (Thanks to Jim Rohn for these ideas!)

1. Read at least 10 pages a day in a personal development book.

2. Listen for at least 20 minutes a day to a good audio.

3. Attend a live seminar at least quarterly.

Three habits that are easy to incorporate into your life, and easy to do.

So those are the four reasons people fail, and some ideas on how to overcome them in your own marketing. Apply some of these ideas consistently to ensure your success in your network marketing business.

If you want to stand a winning chance, it is great if you could offer tons of value as this will definitely help move you up a notch in your network marketing business.

In network marketing, people want to follow a leader. Thus you need to start branding yourself. A good way to do this is to create your very own website or domain name. For example, if John Doe has a website www dot John Doe dot com, he is basically marketing and promoting himself. This will give him an edge in his marketing efforts. As more network marketing companies will offer you the use of a replicated website, you do not need another information site about your network marketing company. What you do need is a site that will sell yourself as a marketer and to brand yourself. This is one of the most important tips to start building your network marketing business.

Once you have set up your domain name, you can start off with a wordpress blog so that your blog can be hosted on your own hosting space. You will also need to find a hosting company and there are some cheap hosting which are available if you do a search on the internet.

Choose a good and presentable theme for your blog. The theme should preferably have the sidebar on the right since Google would normally scan the contents of the blog from left to right. If you were to place your sidebar on the left, Google will end up reading the same content, i.e. the sidebar, over and over again and we do not want Google to keep on reading duplicate content as this is not good.

Next, be prepared to submit between three to seven articles a week. These may be short articles ranging from between four to six hundred words so that people are able to get whatever information they require as fast and instantly as possible. By frequently updating your blog, this will enable Google to find it faster and keep you in their index. Once you are already in Google’s index, continue to write valuable and interesting posts and you will soon see an increase in your website traffic.

If you are not a good writer or have a fear of not knowing what to write, you can either do your research on the internet and get some ideas of the content for your blog. Or you can outsource your blog updates and pay someone else to get your articles ready. Another alternative is to make use of other media like podcast, video and pictures.

From my experience, do not think about the difficulties and keep telling yourself that you cannot do it. As Nike’s slogan goes, “Just Do It!” This should be your motto too. Start doing it and you will learn step-by-step!

Once you get on a proven marketing system, having your own funnel of prospects will make it so much easier to run on autopilot. The leads that you receive from your landing page will be extremely targeted.
Having a professionally looking page will help establish you as a leader in your MLM home based business.

2. Having a marketing system that works on the back end of your lead capture page is the second important aspect of growing your business. Once you have captured the email addresses of all prospects that have viewed your page, this is where you can start to build a relationship with your prospects. Once you are viewed as a leader and have a relationship with them it will be much easier for them to make a decision to join for they now have trust in you.

You set up an email auto responder that allows you to send emails whenever you want to whomever you want. Having an auto responder set up will run behind the scenes on autopilot once you have established your emails.

This can be one of the most dominating factors in growing you MLM home based business.

3. The single most important aspect of growing a downline is becoming a leader. When marketing an MLM opportunity, you should worry about marketing yourself first. Everyone goes onto the internet to find a solution to a problem. If anyone is interested in starting an MLM business they are looking to make money, not sell a product.

If you had the option of choosing $500 or $500 worth of a product, what would you choose? I would choose the cash. So why is it that when people try and promote an opportunity they try to sell the product not the fact of helping them make money?
